The Prairie Village Foundation is excited to launch a new event to help deserving Prairie Village children start the school year off right. As any parent knows, August is an expensive and busy month. Back to school means purchasing new school supplies, lunch boxes, backpacks, clothes, and shoes. Parents also pay PTA dues, yearbook and lunch fees, along with other necessary school expenses. All of these expenses add up quickly.

The Prairie Village Foundation and Consolidated Fire District #2, NE Johnson County are teaming up in early August for a brand new program - "Back to School with a Firefighter." The Prairie Village Foundation is working with Prairie Village school principals to pinpoint children who might benefit from this program. Five children will be teamed up with firefighters and will ride on a shiny red fire truck to Target in Mission. There, firefighters will help children purchase their school supplies from the school district requirement list.

The Prairie Village Foundation will provide $100 to each child to spend. After purchases have been made, children will ride back to the fire station and will have dinner. The Prairie Village Foundation and Consolidated Fire District #2, NE Johnson County believe it is imperative to provide children with new supplies, with the hope that they will feel empowered and confident on the first day of school.

"Back to School with a Firefighter'' welcomes community support. Anyone or any business who would like to contribute to this worthwhile program can stop by City Hall and drop off a monetary donation.
